ABOUT : This beautiful little vases by Julija Pustovrh are made using a mix of recycled clays and Scottish sand from remote coasts in Scottish Islands and Highlands. Stoneware mixed clay is left unglazed to preserve the natural colour of marbled clay and it's texture.
'Over the past decade I visited many remote corners of Scotland. From each of these special places, I brought back small (or large) jars of sand. These captured memories are often my inspiration and mark my deep connection to the seascape. I keep them on display in my studio to bring the beauty of nature into my creative space. Since 2019, I started to use sand from my collection directly in my work. I mix selected sand with different clays to give each piece a unique texture and varied speckled effects. The layered appearance of clay and sand combinations also adds a topography-like colouring to my work - creating imaginary sandscapes.'
SIZE : Approximate sizes of the vases in this collection - 8cm x 7cm (some are wider and lower and some are narrow and tall)
HANDMADE BY : Julija Pustovrh - Every piece is made by hand in her studio in Edinburgh, Scotland
